CREATING NEW HABITS

Remember New Year's Eve - when you may have set a number of goalsthat you really wanted to achieve this year. You were probablymotivated and committed to stick with your plan and get a number ofthings done. This was the year that things came together.

So did you stick with the plan?
Did you achieve those goals?
Or did you just lose your motivation?
Get side tracked or caught upwith the little things that you forgot about the major goals youwanted to achieve.When you think about why you haven't achieved your goals you'llprobably find that you have a number of reasons or excuses for notgetting started, for not taking the initiative and for notachieving your goals.

Why did that happen?
Because you're simply used to doing what you do. You're used to theroutine and part of that routine is to not achieve your goals - tolet things just stay the way they are. This is what your mind andsubconscious mind are used to. It's a habit that you've formed.

We're all creatures of habit and if you're not creating the changesthat you want, if you're not motivated it's because your mind andsubconscious mind are simply sticking to the habit of not achievingyour goals, not getting motivated and not creating changes.

Just like you have a routine that you follow every morning when youget dressed and go to work - your mind and subconscious mind followa certain routine. Either your mind and subconscious mind havedeveloped a habit for being motivated and succeeding or they'reused to just keeping things the way they are.

Now you can create a new habit so that you're motivated to succeedand live the life you want and it's a lot easier than you think.

In today's newsletter I'll show you how to eliminate those excuses, and create new habits so that you're motivated and yoursubconscious mind is driven to help you succeed.

Why You Don't Get Motivated

If you find that you're not motivated to achieve your goals oryou're just not getting things done - then you first have to get ahandle on what is preventing you from moving forward.

These blocks are the reasons or excuses that you've accepted that prevent you from achieving your goals. Before we can change them you have to be aware of what they are.

You can start by answering the following questions:

Is there something that you've been meaning to do but just haven'tbeen able to for the longest time?
I'm not talking about a specific goal - just something that you've been meaning to do but haven'tbeen able to.
What's the reason?
Think about it.
Why have you been putting it off for so long?
Write down youranswer and you'll discover your excuses - these are the reasons why you're not getting motivated to achieve your goal or complete your task.

Now take a look at some of your bigger goals and do the same thing."

You can think about a course that you've been meaning to take, a book you want to read, learning something that could change your life, pursuing a hobby, starting a business, increasing your finances, getting into a relationship, anything.

Write down all the reasons or excuses that you come up with for notdoing what you wanted to do.

Here are some of the common excuses and reasons that I hear everyday for people not doing what they want to do:

I haven't got the time.
There are just too many things to do.
I'll start on Monday (does something magical happen on Monday thatdoesn't happen on any other day? If there is I sure would like to know.)
First I want to get through this project then I'll get to that.
My kids are driving me crazy.
My friends won't understand.
It just takes too much time.
I'm going on vacation and will do it when I get back.
I can't concentrate.
It's just too much work.
I don't deserve it.

And the list goes on and on and on.
In the end you never complete what you wanted to do.

Why?

Because you've developed a habit of rationalizing your way out of getting something done and you've bought into your excuses. You now believe your excuses and your reasons for not doing something are valid and this is why nothing ever gets done.

So think about the excuses or reasons for not creating the changes or improvements you want in your life?

Write them down because you're going to learn how to you get pastor eliminate your excuses.

The most common excuse or reason is time.

You might find yourself saying that you don't have time or you'llget to it later - when you have more time.

But what's the reason for creating that excuse.The truth is that it's often really not about time.

Let's take a look at a typical day for most people.You have 24 hours in a day. You sleep for 8, leaving 16. You work 8 hours or even 10 hours a day that leaves you with 6 or 8 hours aday


Maybe you spend an hour commuting everyday that brings it down to 5 or 7 hours a day.
You cook, eat and relax - does that take 5 or 7 hours everyday?

No it doesn't.The truth is that if you just spent even a few minutes to an hour aday working towards your goals you'd achieve them.

The real reason is not time!
Instead it's that you've accepted the reason or the excuse of not having enough time. You now believe that you don't have the time so you no longer have the time.

Your mind and subconscious mind have accepted this belief.

So instead of helping you achieve your goals - your mind and subconscious mind look for ways for you to run out of time so that you never achieve anything. You may end up doing things for no reason - or take too long to do something instead of focusing on and achieving your goals.

You've actually given your mind and subconscious mind the exact opposite instruction of what you really want.

In order to turn things around you have to re-train your mind, give your subconscious mind new instructions so that it helps you achieve your goals.

Look at the reasons you have and change them to reflect what you want to happen.

Continue focusing on what you want.

If you say you don't have enough time then tell yourself that you do have the time that you need.

If you feel you haven't got enough experience - tell yourself that you do have the experience that you need.

Regularly think of what you want instead of what you don't want.

When you do this you'll begin re-training the mind.

Change Your Focus

There's a good chance that you accept your reasons and excuses only because you're focusing on the wrong thing. You're likely focusing on the process and not the result or reward that you really want.

What do I mean?

Let's say you wanted to clean up your home.

Instead of thinking about how nice it would be to have a clean home you start thinking about all the work that you have to do and youfocus on the process - cleaning, mopping, dusting, sweeping, doing the windows, etc.

When you focus on the process, on those little steps that you haveto take you'll talk yourself out of cleaning up because you were focusing on the process and not the result which is to have a clean, tidy home that you can be proud of.

If you want to get a new job and you're not doing anything about it- then you're probably thinking about the process of going through the papers, searching for other opportunities, going on interviews where you may get rejected, and you're not focusing on the result that you want - which is to get a better job so that you can improve the quality of your life.

When you focus on the process you'll come up with excuses for not doing what you really want to do.

Why?

Because the process is time consuming, it requires work, you haveto put in the effort, and everybody wants things done immediately -we all want results right away.

But does a marathon athlete start off by running the New York Marathon? No.
Instead he or she trains sometimes for years before running in the New York Marathon.

Does a professional football player become a professional football player without training and playing at least in high school? No.

Does a successful company generate millions of dollars in profits? No.

They all go through a process, which to you may seem excruciating and time consuming because you're looking only at the process and not focused on the reward or the result.

By shifting your focus to the reward or the result you give your mind an objective and you continually give your subconscious mind the instruction of achieving that goal.
You're constantly telling your subconscious mind that achieving that goal is important and you're telling it why it is important.
Your subconscious has no choice but to help you achieve that goal -mainly because you are regularly instructing it - by thinking ofthe rewards and the result.

Focus on what you want.
Eliminate the excuses.
Change your reasons - by thinking of what you want and why.
Feed your mind new information, give it a new objective.
Learn to instruct and direct your subconscious mind to help you achieve your goals and stay motivated.

The Final Push

I know some of you may say:
"Karim, you don't understand mysituation. I really don't have the time, I barely get a moment to breathe let alone do anything else. How can I make the time when there aren'tenough hours in the day?"

We all get the same amount of time how you use that time is up to you. If you don't have the time to make the changes or improvements you want in life then you're really saying they're not important enough.

But don't just listen to me - take a look for yourself.

Write alist of all the things you do everyday and then see which are so important that they can't be put aside for your goals. And keep in mind that if you don't make the time for those improvements you want - nothing changes.
Remember the reason for those goals, remember the outcome that you want. Then see if it's important enough to set aside a few minutes.

It's not too late to achieve those goals that you set out toaccomplish at the start of the year. Decide what you want to achieve and understand why.
Don't accept the reasons or excuses you come up with.
Instead, think of why you can achieve what you want.Focus on the end result - don't focus on the process.
Continually think of how and why you should achieve your goals.

This is how you create a new habit of thinking.
Keep feeding your subconscious mind new instructions to help youachieve your goals.
